December 26, 2007

I try to keep this blog updated, but it is just so hard to find the time to keep it as current as I would like. I never thought I would be one of those guys that didn't have time for stuff.

Christmas was spent with Penny's mom and step-father, John. Her sister Jessica and her boyfriend Coleman where here too. It was Joaquin's first Christmas and it was a lot of fun...I am going to try to get a bunch of pictures in here...these are some from the past week or so.

Now that I post these and take a look at them, I notice most are pretty much the same shot. I guess I need to mix up my picture taking a little bit more, but I just crack up at the faces he makes so I zoom in on his face. There are a few series of pictures, but they are all jumped up. He makes some pretty funny faces!

December 18, 2007

Joaquin went to the doctor today and weighed in at a hefty 13lb 6oz. I believe he was 23 3/4" tall. His length and head were right around the 50th percentile and his weight was 90th...so he is coming along nicely.

It was sad when he had to get 4 shots today. They stuck him in each leg twice. He did not cry very much, so that was a relief. He was a very good boy and apparently he gets another 4 shots in two more months, so I will make Penny hold him this time!

No new pictures to post...Penny and I are so busy lately. The holidays are a busy time and the little man does not make things easy on us. We are excited for our trip to Wisconsin next Friday. I am a bit nervous how things will be on the airplane. I do not want to be "that guy" - you know, the one everyone hates with the crying kid. You know, the one that you all track out of the corner of your eye hoping his seat is not anywhere near you...yeah, that guy!

Joaquin seems to be feeling better. He goes back to the doctor a week from today, so we will find out how much weight this little guy packs on in a week. He really is gaining weight quickly! It makes me laugh because he is really starting to fill out. He was pretty skinny when we brought him home, but now is forearms are getting lines from fat rolls...so his skinny days are over!

Here are a bunch of pictures and movies we took tonight. Jessica, Joaquin loves his baby gym and says thank you! That is where we took most of these pictures and you can hear the music in the background.

Here is Joaquin relaxing before his photo shoot.

Joaquin was showing some attitude after I put him down to play on his baby gym. He likes to be held, but once he starts looking around at the bright colors and you start to talk to him he comes around quickly.

There we go...captured some nice pictures.

I took a few videos. He has a little scratch on his forehead - we didn't get a chance to cut his fingernails until it was too late! He doesn't like the camera either, so getting a good video of him can be tough. The lighting can be a bit dark in some of these, but he is pretty funny. Check them out.

I think these last two are great. I just need better lighting because the colors come out so distorted on video.

December 10, 2007

Joaquin's next doctor's appointment was supposed to be December 18, but he has been a little congested and more fussy than usual. Penny called the doctor and they asked her to bring him in. He has a virus, but no fever or anything to worry about. We did get his weight however...the little guy was 13lbs 4oz. Today he is 8 weeks old, so he left the hospital just under 8 weeks ago at 6lb 7-8oz, so he has doubled his weight in just under 8 weeks. He's a hefty guy and filling out his fat rolls nicely. I will get some pics up shortly.

December 4, 2007

It has been so hard to free up time to update Joaquin's blog. I am going to skip ahead because it seems so much happens every day and trying to catch up is nearly impossible. I have pictures I want to upload and a funny story I want to tell.

It is amazing to watch his progress. He is much, much more interactive than he was when my parents visited. When they were here in early November, you could coax a litte smile out of Joaquin. Now, he looks at you, smiles, coos and even makes noises to get your attention. It is so much more satisfying for me to get some interaction from him rather than just screams and yells.

Here are a few pics of Joaquin sitting on Grandma Hintz's lap. I think this might be one of his first smiles ever captured on film (memory card :o))

Two peas in a pod! We don't want Thor too close to him because he is a bit jealous. Thor will step right on top of the little guy. You can even find Thor sleeping in his bassinet.

Bad Kitty!

Grandpa Hintz holding Joaquin.

HEY! Whachu lookin' at Sucka! His face has gotten so much fatter, it makes me laugh!

What more is there really to say...THE CUTEST KID IN THE WORLD! I know, it's my son, but I am unbiased!

Here is a picture of Penny, her sister Jessica, her mother and little Joaquin.
Ladies, please forgive me if I chose photos you do not approve of.
It is the happy little Hintz family!

Here is Joaquin with Grandpa Kelley. He was wiped out after the photo shoot and filling his diaper!

What a killer smile! Wait until he gets some teeth!

Ok, Joaquin is bored of pictures, so we will upload more later...

We will leave you with a picture taken by Penny's sister of the happy family and a funny story about a trip to the doctor's office.

Penny had her 6 week check up at the doctor's office. So, I met her there so I could look after Joaquin while she was in with the doctor. She called me and told me she was leaving, so I left work to meet her there. I was surprised when I saw her car there when I arrived. The waiting room was pretty full, so I quickly surveyed the room and I didn't see her. I felt bad because the whole reason I was there was to occupy Joaquin while she went in with the doctor and I was too late. So, I sat down and was looking for a magazine when I heard a baby cry. I immediately knew it was Joaquin and looked to the corner of the room. There was Penny and Joaquin!!

It is amazing that you can hear a child cry and know immediately if it is your child. I never knew I had that in me...I guess I am becoming the father I never knew I could be!

A few Movies...

Here are a few movies that we made...hopefully many more to follow.

He really likes to stretch!

Check out this video from October 22. As I am posting this, it is one month later and his arms are so much bigger and fatter. It's amazing what a difference a month makes...He is so skinny here!

These videos taken on my camera are HUGE! I am going to post one more here to see how Blogger handles these files in a posting. Here is the last video I am going to put on here for now. I think it's pretty funny to see him sucking while he is sleeping...here is a quick video of him doing that.

Hope you can see the videos. Please comment if they take way too long to download. I take these videos with my camera, but they take very high resolution videos so they are very large files that I cannot change. Maybe if I had a video editor I could reduce the file size. Anyway, please let me know if the size makes them unmanageable to watch. I can tell you that if you don't watch them, they are almost unmanageable to upload - so please tell me if you cannot view them!

I am doing my best to keep this blog caught up. I am a month behind, but that pretty much sums up how things go. We spend all of our time trying to get caught up with everything, whether it be housework, cleaning, or grocery shopping. We are finding that it is not easy doing the smallest of things like just running to the store to pick up diapers. It is kinda ironic how when your family grows, you end up doing more and more stuff alone outside of the house. When you come home, there is a crowded house, but when you go to the store, you go alone because it is just such a hassle getting the baby ready to go and you never know if he is going to fuss or not. I think being a parent is going to teach me to be much more disciplined and not allow me to waste time. I think that is a good thing!

The first week and a half has really flown by and we are enjoying every minute of it. I look foward to when he is more interactive, but I realize this time will fly by and I need to enjoy these times as well. Don't get me wrong, I do; but I look forward to being able to talk and play with him. Penny is doing a great job and is making the transition to motherhood very smoothly. I am not the most patient man, so I am very lucky that she has embraced her role as mother so willingly. Her being a good mom is helping me be a better dad and that is pretty awesome.

Here are a few pictures.

October 20, 2007

I had recently adopted a few siamese cats and Penny and I were a little worried about how they would adjust to the new addtion. Here, we see Thor looking at Joaquin. He is a bit jealous and was the center of attention before Joaquin arrived, so we are still dealing with him demanding attention. I am a bit behind on starting and updating this blog, but we now know that Thor has ringworm and we do not allow him near the boy or to lay on anything of Joaquin's. It is sad because Thor is a great cat and does not understand why he is being snubbed. I wash his nose and behind the ears every night because that is where he is having the outbreak. If any of us gets ringworm, we are going to have to get rid of Thor, so I hope it clears up before we have any problems. He is a great cat and I would love to keep him.

Penny adjusted quickly to her role as a mom. Every sound that would come out of his mouth would make Penny jump to action. I felt a little ignored, but I too am adjusting to my role as a father. I still find it hard to believe how small he is. When we left the hospital, Joaquin had lost almost a pound. Between his weight loss and the potential for him to have jaundice, the nurses really had Penny on edge.

We took Joaquin to his first doctor's appointment on Friday, October 19th, 2 days after we took him home from the hospital. We were both excited to go to see how we were doing in our first few days as parents and to see if we could get him to put some of the weight he lost back on. When we left the hospital, Joaquin weighed about 6 lbs 8oz, and when we got to the doctor at 8 AM on Friday he had put all the weight he had lost back on. We were relieved and now there was no worry about jaundice. The nurses really liked to throw these types of words out there and wouldn't educate you about it, so we would get on the laptop and do our own research. It was nice they had wireless internet because they were not very good sources of information, just fear!

In his first few days at home, we saw some really funny faces that Joaquin would make. Here is a series of pictures that we found to be hilarious!

Penny and I have found parenting to be pretty exhausting. We try to catch naps whenever possible and we enjoy taking them with Joaquin.
